So what is an Escape Room?! An Escape Room is a real-life escape game. Escape games have gained popularity in recent years, starting in Asia, moving through Europe before opening in the US. Escape games are an interactive adventure game where groups of people are ‘locked’ in a room with other participants and solve clues and puzzles hidden within the decoration and furniture in the room. No special skills are involved, just an observant eye and an enjoyment of logic type puzzles. The goal is to ‘escape’ the room in 60 minutes!
Most people are worried about the door being locked! Yes, it is locked but there are also ‘unlocked’ emergency exits that do not form part of the game play.
We don’t want to give away too many secrets about our rooms but this CBS Video gives a little glimpse into the world of Escape Rooms.
Our first visit to an Escape Room was in London. I was looking at Tripadvisor to see what activities we could do with our older kids and I saw that ClueQuest was the #1 attraction in London! Not the Queen or Buckingham Palace but an Escape Room! At that time I had never heard of Escape Games but I booked and it was the beginning of a slight addiction to Escape Rooms! It was a big hit with our family that included kids aged 9-17 and since then we have played Escape Games in Norway and other cities in the US. Just recently one of our kids got to play an Escape Room in Turkey!
